Neither can the religious epiphany have been all too effective, I imagine. Not that there's anything wrong with converting to Catholicism while in prison, but I can't really see a reason for it other than absinthe withdrawal.
Am I remembering wrong, or did absinthe act as a hallucinogen? That was why so many writers took to imbibing it, right?
