I haven't read any of her poetry, so I can't judge its quality. I did like her medieval brand of feminism, though. When I first attempted the Cité I found that I preferred the idea of it to the execution - but this was more than 10 years ago, so I can't say what I'd think of it now.
As for old French and modern French, where are the boundaries? Is François the originator of modern French, and anything before that counts as old French? Or do you have a middle French (much like our middle English, which includes Chaucer and Shakespeare and is comprehensible to most speakers of modern English), which Villon et al form part of?
... as you can see, my one year of Romance Languages and Linguistics and my six months of Old French left some significant gaps in my Latin-to-modern-French timeline!
