He's not! He's thinking about Brits not being able to read his poetry because they can't speak French and that gives his this tight, yet sorrowful expression! You're misreading everything!
Actually, I know nothing about French poetry, and am simply (and lazily) enjoying the ride. Though I can't tell if I never want to read any Prevert ever, ever again, or whether I would enjoy the nostalgia trip!
So - post what appeals to you. I'm enjoying it regardless.
(I am hearing the voices of my french teachers in my ears right now on the subject of Prevert's simplicity of language and what this represents, aside from an easy poem to teach your students)
