It's just to say it has been suggested not to post anything on LJ this Friday (GMT) - no entries, no comments, nothing - to protest against LJ banning search interests and basic account creations. More details here.

[livejournal.com profile] shiv5468 has a handy list of things to know and do when moving to another blog service.

I'm not sure other blog services won't turn out like LJ eventually though. Anyway.

And to top it all [livejournal.com profile] dacian_goddess has found a way to get rid of the annoying little insane!faces before the usernames at insanejournal. *happy* Check out my latest entry over there for the code.

I'm so far behind on reading your IJ posts it isn't even funny. And I see I also have to think up a few choice words for that failed politician of yours whose name escapes me at the moment. And there may be some eye-rolling at the other one as well. ;-)

Speaking of failed politicians (pardon, Tavi!), did you hear that the Napoleon auction brought in 1.2 million euros?!?

I haven't heard from you for a while! Everything all right, I hope?

That'll buy him a few more lawyers... there are some interrogations about how exactly he could afford to buy them in the first place, on a diplomat's salary...

I'm fine, just completely swamped at work (the first quarter is my busiest time of the year; you'd think I was a tax accountant!). At the moment I'm also having to deal with a leaking water heater and a problem with the wireless modem in my laptop. Other than that, though, life is good. Btw, there's an Easter card on its way to you in which I finally thank you for the package of goodies you sent me a while back. I'm seriously addicted to those almond thingies.

How goes the job search (or would I know if I'd been keeping up with your other journal)?

Gifts from admirers, perhaps?

You sound busy :)

And I do wonder what special services warranted those "gifts".

I think I should let Tavi speak for Dominique here. ;-)

I'll just let Dominique wonder why you aren't jumping to the defence of his honour.

Has he got any honour??? Since when?

OH NO YOU DON'T! Dominique has had to sell his Napoleon collection to pay those lawyers. Lucky he's made all this money here, he'll need it if the practicing law himself thing doesn't turn out very well. I know you're not Dominique's greatest fan, but the one tiny thing you could say in his favour is that unlike Chirac and most other politicians, he has never embezzled/stolen any state funds. He's too Bonapartiste for that. Or too aristocratic to care about money: he doesn't even carry a wallet, and his bodyguard handles all his expenses. While Tony travels around pocketing several hundred thousand per speech, Dominique only accepted reimbursement for the plane fare and the hotel stay from Harvard when he lectured there. Not sure about his latest speeches, but hopefully this auction will make sure he never degrades himself into turning up just for the opening of an envelope.

Yeah but the question was, how did he come to possess all this valuable stuff in the first place? And saying he doesn't care about money desn't say much in his defense - if he doesn't care he might've thought accepting a bribe was no big deal.

(Chirac also never carries money around, is that to say he never embezzled? And Bonaparte looted more than a bit in his time, I wouldn't quote him as a stellar example!)
